Partaaaaaaay! Yesterday 45 family and friends came over for an afternoon tea party to celebrate my Mum and Step-dad’s 60th birthdays. The styling was vintage and floral to fit in with the pretty cakes and delicate sandwiches. A vintage china hire company provided all the tableware we needed including the most AMAZING vintage glasses that we added floral straws to. Floral tablecloths and bunting helped to create the look and adding fresh flowers in small jam jars around the room brought the outside in. Adding the labels to the jars helped to personalise the accessories, along with a collection of…

Our new addition! Well the days of new babies are over in the Douglas household, or so I thought! We now have a new baby in the house, our fur baby is 8 week old puppy: Mabel. I couldn’t miss an opportunity to show her to you all so thought I’d round up a few of my favourite dog products so far on this new journey for us as a family. So firstly she needed a cosy bed. It needed to be a fairly low price, as there was a chance it could be chewed to pieces while she’s still young, so opted…

Money, money, money  Ah that old song always playing in my head when I’ve got some fabulous new interior ideas, but am limited by a budget. If you’ve moved into, or maybe have lived for a while, in a home that is tired, dated or just not your bag in terms of decor, but you’ve got a tiny amount of cash to play with, there are ways to change the space without spending a fortune! 1- Tile Paint Our kitchen tiles were a lovely bright shade of both blue and yellow – see below for a before pic – yikes! We…

Finally, after some initial hiccups the latest blog post is here! After working full time last week it just wasn’t happening and my plan was to get started on the garden room after all my planning in the previous post. However, having a very high ceiling requires a scaffolding tower so I had to pour my decorating eagerness in to a new project, the playroom/study was in my sights! Before…        So it has never been decorated and like much of the house featured a lovely orangey brown mahogany woodwork, along with two varying shades of dull green….

So, before decorating a room I think it’s so important to gather images of all the colours, some products and existing flooring etc, so that you can visualise the whole look. Our green room is a large, L-shaped room which is our dining area, but also a second living room. It’s the only room that really looks out on the garden and I love it, but it feels empty and cold, so I’m hoping by decorating the room will become warmer and more homely. The mood board… So here is the look I have in my mind. We already have…

Lets be honest, everyone loves a bargain and whilst I always strive to buy from independent stores (blog post on my favourites to come), I wanted to share with you some of the best interior products around this month in the high street shops. Some of the products I’ve picked are currently in the sale, some are just great value for money! I’ve picked four of the most reasonable high street shops and rounded up 8-12 favourites from each. H&M So much love for H&M and their sale is the place to bag an absolute BARGAIN! I’m loving the mixture of gold,…

So as my Mum would love to tell you, I was a messy child, a messy teenager and, in all honesty, a messy adult; but with the family growing, so too did the mess! Argh! Instead of a quick tidy to sort the house it was taking me hours, each and every time, enough was enough! It was time to get organised! 1.The Raskog Trolley One of the biggest bug bears in many households is the entryway, a pit of doom with mountains of shoes, coats and school bags littering the space. Ours is a veritable shrine to Ikea, so many great…

When furniture lands on your doorstep I was so glad to inherit some new home bits when a lovely lady, who has basically been my Nan for nearly 20 years, passed away. Not only is it comforting to have some of her belongings around, it was a chance to fill some of the many blank spaces in our house. My motto is, if it’s solid wood and you have space, never turn away furniture! So many dated  pieces can be brought back to life with a lick of paint. Corner Table So this is the table in its original state….

So after watching, reading and lurking on countless interiors blogs, feeds and magazines I have come to realise how absolutely integral styling is to a space. You can have the most beautifully decorated space in the world but without some styling in there, it just won’t ‘pop’. Now obviously there are a billion GORGEOUS styling bits out there, but if you have a limited budget what can you do… I try and budget in one or two really cracking pieces for a room and then add things I already have, source from car boots/charity shops, ‘borrow’ from families houses or DIY…

The latest big job we’ve completed in the house is our utility room. It started out life as a small and narrow utility and an ensuite for the downstairs bedroom. Now, as our oldest, a soon-to-be teenager, has this room you can only imagine how looked after this bathroom was! Not. Great. Two become one As there’s a sizeable downstairs loo it seemed like an idea to knock through and create a bigger utility room. The other big downside was that the only access to the garage through the house was from said child’s bedroom, impractical and often met with mild…
